Social eCommerce Marketplace
Enterprise client
integrated platform features shipped
A beauty, wellness, and fitness brand needed to go beyond standard eCommerce and build a community-driven marketplace where users could interact in real time. Madgeek built a custom platform combining audio/video calling, a credit and wallet system, a sticker module, and full eCommerce buying and selling capabilities. The result was a social marketplace purpose-built for the beauty and wellness community, delivered using agile sprints with a tech stack selected for scalability and security.
Why social commerce is different from adding a shop to a social app
The client — a beauty, wellness, and fitness brand — needed more than an eCommerce store with a comment section. They needed a platform where community interaction drives purchase decisions. Users discover products through peer reviews, expert recommendations, and community discussions — not through search and category browsing. The social layer is not a feature added to commerce. The commerce layer is built into the social experience.
What did the social commerce platform need to handle?
- Community features: user profiles, posts, comments, reactions, direct messaging, and content sharing — all connected to products
- Product discovery through social signals: trending products, community reviews, expert recommendations, and peer purchases
- Integrated commerce: browse products within the social feed, add to cart without leaving the conversation, complete purchase in-app
- Content types: text posts, image galleries, short-form video, product reviews, and expert articles — all in a unified feed
- Real-time interactions: live comments, instant notifications, and activity feeds that update without page refresh
- Mobile-first: the primary user experience is on phone, designed for thumb-first interaction patterns
How the social commerce platform works
Community-driven discovery
The home feed combines social content and product content in a single stream. Users see community posts, product reviews, expert articles, and trending items alongside content from people they follow. Product discovery happens through social context — a review post, a recommendation, a 'just bought this' share — not through category navigation.
Social product pages
Product pages include community reviews, questions, and discussion alongside standard product information. Users can see who in their network has purchased the product and what they thought. This social proof layer is the primary conversion mechanism — peer validation drives purchase decisions in beauty and wellness.
In-feed commerce
Products referenced in social posts are shoppable. Users can add to cart directly from a community post, a review, or an expert recommendation without navigating away from their feed. The purchase flow is embedded in the social experience rather than requiring a context switch to a separate store.
Real-time social features
Activity feeds, notifications, and direct messaging update in real time. Live comments on posts and product discussions create the sense of an active community. The real-time layer keeps users engaged and returning — essential for a social platform where engagement drives commerce.
