Custom eCommerce Platform — Retail Rebuild

CrazyPi (Remote Computing Technologies)

40%+

increase in sales after platform rebuild

A market-leading electronics retailer had outgrown its existing platform — slow page loads, high checkout abandonment, and a promotional engine that could not handle complex discount structures. Madgeek built a custom eCommerce platform from the ground up: performance-first architecture with sub-2-second page loads, mobile-native checkout, and an advanced promotional engine for tiered pricing, bundle deals, and flash sales. The result was a 40%+ increase in sales within the first quarter.

The problem: a successful retailer trapped by its own platform

A market-leading electronics and gadget retailer had outgrown its existing eCommerce platform. The original system — built years earlier on a monolithic architecture — could not handle the catalog complexity, promotional logic, or traffic volume the business now demanded.

Page load times were increasing. The checkout flow had a high abandonment rate. Adding new product categories required developer intervention. And the promotional engine could not support the complex discount structures (tiered pricing, bundle deals, flash sales with inventory limits) that the merchandising team needed to compete.

The business was growing despite the platform, not because of it. Every peak sales period was a stress test that the system barely survived.

What made this complex

  • Large product catalog with complex categorisation, variant management, and rich product content (videos, comparison tables, specifications)
  • Advanced promotional engine: tiered discounts, bundle pricing, flash sales with real-time inventory limits, coupon stacking rules, and customer-segment-specific offers
  • High-traffic tolerance: the platform needed to handle traffic spikes during sales events without degradation
  • Payment gateway integration with multiple providers and fallback routing
  • Mobile-first design: over 60% of traffic came from mobile devices, but the existing site was desktop-first with a responsive afterthought
  • SEO preservation: hundreds of indexed product pages that needed URL continuity through the migration

What we built

A complete platform rebuild — new architecture, new frontend, new backend, new admin tools — designed from the ground up for the traffic, catalog complexity, and promotional requirements the business actually needed.

Performance-first architecture

The new platform was built for speed. Static product pages are pre-rendered and served from CDN. Dynamic elements (pricing, inventory, cart) load asynchronously. The result is sub-2-second page loads even during peak traffic — down from 5-8 seconds on the old platform.

Advanced promotional engine

The merchandising team can create and schedule promotions without developer involvement: tiered volume discounts, bundle deals, flash sales with countdown timers and real-time inventory tracking, coupon rules with stacking logic, and customer-segment targeting. This capability had been the biggest bottleneck on the old platform.

Mobile-native experience

The frontend was designed mobile-first. Navigation, product browsing, and checkout were optimised for thumb-zone interaction. Product imagery and rich content adapt to screen size without layout shifts. The mobile conversion rate improved significantly after launch.

Admin and inventory management

A custom admin panel gives the operations team control over catalog management, order processing, inventory tracking, and customer data — without touching code. Bulk product updates, automated low-stock alerts, and integrated order tracking replaced a patchwork of spreadsheets and manual processes.

The result

40%+ increase in sales within the first quarter after relaunch. The combination of faster page loads, improved mobile experience, and a streamlined checkout flow had a direct, measurable impact on conversion rates.

Cart abandonment decreased as checkout friction was reduced. Average order value increased with the new promotional engine enabling effective bundle and upsell offers. The merchandising team went from submitting developer tickets for every promotion to running campaigns independently.

The platform handled its first major sales event without incident — a significant milestone given that previous events had caused partial outages on the old system.

Technical details

  • Modern JavaScript frontend with server-side rendering and static generation for product pages
  • Headless CMS for product content management
  • Custom promotional engine with rule-based discount logic
  • CDN-first architecture for sub-2-second page loads
  • Multiple payment gateway integrations with failover routing
  • Deployed on cloud infrastructure with auto-scaling for traffic spikes
